Women Making a Difference with EU Support 

On the occasion of International Women's Day 2023, we are thrilled to announce the launch of our new video series, "Women Making a Difference with EU Support."
The series comprises of six videos featuring women who have received EU funding to support their businesses or communities. Each video showcases the inspiring stories of these women and highlights the difference that EU support has made in their lives.
We invite you to watch these empowering videos and be inspired by the incredible achievements of these women. It is hoped these videos will motivate and encourage women and young people to pursue their dreams and make a difference in their communities too.

Opening Ceremony of Kormakitis Centre for Cooperation
Within the framework of the European Union (EU) funded Local Infrastructure Facility (LIF), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has completed the construction of the Kormakitis Centre for Cooperation (KCC) as part of efforts to contribute towards reconciliation and coexistence in the multi-communal landscape of Cyprus.
The opening ceremony was held on Saturday, 18 March 2023 with the participation of the European Commission, UNDP, the diplomatic community as well as the different local communities on the island. 
The project commenced in September 2021 and was completed in January 2023, with funding from the EU for the amount of EUR
1,238,506. The Kormakitis Centre for Cooperation aims to offer a wide range of programmes and learning opportunities, including languages and traditions, nature preservation, recycling and the agricultural development of organic products. The centre will also host events promoting multiculturalism both in Cyprus and beyond. In addition, young artists will have opportunities to showcase their artistic talents and skills through cultural activities. With regards to facilities, the centre will be equipped to provide basic accommodation and catering for groups of up to 60 people.

European Year of Skills

The "FUTURE SKILLS" seminar, supported by the European Commission as part of the European Year of Skills, took place on 22 March 2023 at the Cyprus Turkish Teachers' Trade Union conference hall. The seminar explored the importance of future skills and EU-funded opportunities for skills development in the Turkish Cypriot community. Head of Cooperation for the Cyprus Settlement Support Unit at the European Commission, Mr. Stefan Simosas opened the seminar by highlighting the European Commission's investment in initiatives to boost the skill set of Turkish Cypriot students, teachers, professionals, and employers. The seminar included presentations by Cecilia Rodrigues on the importance of soft skills in the Turkish Cypriot community, Berna Berberoğlu on skills and employability, and Yochka Anastasova on matching labour market demands with improved skills provision. The seminar concluded with a Q&A session.

Going Further with Science 3rd Competition & Award Ceremony

The third in the series of “Going Further with Science” short video competitions held under the theme of “Experiments” for primary, secondary, high school and vocational school students organised with the support of the European Commission, as part of the European Research and Innovation Days, has been completed. The awards were presented to the winning schools during an award ceremony held at Necati Taşkın Primary School Sports Hall onWednesday, 29 March 2023. 
Speaking at the award ceremony with the participation of winning students, teachers and school principals, the Deputy Director and Head of Unit for the Cyprus Settlement Support Unit at the European Commission Mr. Kjartan Björnsson, emphasised the importance of the laboratory and

equipment facilities provided to 48 primary and 46 secondary schools as well as the mobile laboratory as part of the EU Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community. Björnsson stated that such EU initiatives demonstrate the commitment of the European Union in supporting innovation and research in the Turkish Cypriot community.
This year is the European Year of Skills and the European Union is committed to improving the skills of everyone in Europe. The use of the school labs and the mobile lab on wheels will continue to improve students’ knowledge and learning experience; and to inspire students to think about careers in science and innovation.

EU Study Fair

The EU Study Fair, an annual event organised by the EU Scholarship Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community and funded by the European Union, took place on 10 – 11 March 2023. The event promoted higher education options and provided a platform for students to learn more about study opportunities in Europe. It featured seminars and workshops, allowing participants to connect with programme alumni and EU representatives.
Studying in Europe offers the chance to enhance skills, broaden horizons, gain international experience, and develop a global perspective. The EU Scholarship Programme has provided more than 2,000 Turkish Cypriots with scholarships to study in over 130 universities across 80 different subjects, investing €38 million through the programme to date.

First PDO for Turkish Cypriot Halloumi/Hellim producer

The first Turkish Cypriot milk and dairy products company was awarded a PDO certificate and will be able to use the name

"Halloumi/Hellim" in its products in the European Union. This is a good example of production in accordance with quality and standards.
