European Researchers' Night brought attention to Climate and Environment

The role of research and innovation in the success of the economic, ecological and societal transition was underlined during the European Researchers’ Night 2019 event held at Bandabuliya Stage in Nicosia on Friday, 27 September. Researchers, Ms. Şefika Mertkan, Mr. Ali Muhtaroğlu, Ms. Gizem Şanlıtürk, Mr. Mümtaz Güran, Mr. Ergin Akalper, and Mr. Umut Arbay shared their latest research projects in relation to climate and environment.

European Researchers Night 2019 was an open event where participants had the opportunity to meet researchers and explore their work relating to climate and environment.  At the event, researchers presented their research work in various areas such as sustainable development by reducing carbon emissions and increasing cleaner energy production; climate change and environmental journalism; antimicrobial resistance patterns of three pathogenic bacteria in Mediterranean seawater; and research and social responsibility. 

During the event special emphasis was also given to the importance of research.  Researchers presented their work and informed the public about the role and importance of research in climate action and protecting the environment as well as the impact of their research results in sustainable development. At the same time, participants had the opportunity to engage with the researchers and ask questions.  The event ended with a reception, giving participants and researchers an opportunity to network and share ideas.
