Connecting SMEs to Opportunities during European SME Week 
 
The European Commission marked European SME Week with the “Innovative Enterprises” event on 26 November at Bedestan in Nicosia. The event included expert speeches on investments, entrepreneurship, smart specialization and structural funds, opportunities for innovative enterprises, small business support programme, research and development practices and EU support for private sector development.  Various businesses, CSOs and universities hosted information stands at the event.
The event aimed to improve awareness about European SME Week by helping the existing entrepreneurs find information on available support mechanisms and encouraging more people to set up their own businesses. The event also provided inspiration about smart specialisations and innovative practices for the Turkish Cypriot community regarding entrepreneurship.

European Youth Media Days
The Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus organised a human rights and photojournalism workshop on 6 November to highlight the importance of dialogue, innovation, information exchange and knowledge. Human rights, human rights in journalism, journalism and story telling issues were highlighted in the trainings. The workshop attracted young journalists and journalism students from various universities and institutions. The human rights themed photo and photojournalism competition was also launched to improve awareness on human rights. 
Veterinary Week 2015
The European Commission marked the Veterinary Week 2015 with an open day organised at the Veterinary Department Laboratory on 18 November. The event included a tour of the Veterinary Laboratory, expert speeches on animal health standards in the Turkish Cypriot community, and EU standards for food production and safety standards for local products, as well as information stands. The aim of the Veterinary Week Open Day was to improve awareness about animal health and welfare and safety of products of animal origin, to increase knowledge about the EU livestock development  programme in the Turkish Cypriot community and to improve awareness on the EU standards for food production.  
European Commission marked the Universal Children's Day with a panel
The panel discussion, which took place at Naci Talat Foundation on 27 November, brought together experts from the Social Services Department, academics, children’s rights advocates and practitioners from SOS Children’s Village, to emphasise the importance of protecting children’s rights. The aim of the event was to improve knowledge about the EU’s policy on child protection, to discuss social services for children and to share examples from the EU countries, and the Turkish Cypriot community on how child protection is approached and how children’s rights are advocated. The panel, which attracted more than 100 participants, ended with a fruitful Q&A session.
