Europe Day held on 9 May every year celebrates peace and unity in Europe. The date marks the anniversary of the historical 'Schuman Declaration'. The Schuman Declaration states that "Europe will not be made in one go, nor through a comprehensive construction, it will be built by concrete realisations that will first create real solidarity." What began on 9th May 1950, the pooling of steel and coal between France and Germany has evolved into what we today know as the European Union. The European Union is built on the fundamental values of respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and respect for human rights.
Europe Day Concert took place in Lefka

Europe Day celebrations during May began with a concert by the Cyprus Chamber Orchestra which took place on 15 May at Lefka/Lefke Square. Following the opening speech by Ms.Pelin Maneoğlu, guests enjoyed the musical repertoire, including works of world-famous composers. The celebrations that emphasise the importance of cultural heritage, music and art, as well as the unity and solidarity, continued on 26 May at Europe Day Fair at Selimiye Square, Nicosia and on 5 June with another concert by the Cyprus Chamber Orchestra at Othello Castle, Famagusta.

The European Year of Cultural Heritage is celebrated to showcase the wealth and diversity of our cultural heritage, highlighting its role in creating a shared sense of identity and building Europe’s future. This year saw a series of initiatives and events across Europe to enable people to become closer to and more involved with their cultural heritage. Cultural heritage shapes our identities and everyday lives. It surrounds us in Europe's towns and cities, natural landscapes and archaeological sites. It is not only found in literature, art and objects, but also in the crafts we learn from our ancestors, the music we listen to, the stories we tell to our children, the food we enjoy in company and the films we watch and recognise ourselves in.

A "Protect the Environment" training series, organised in cooperation with the EU-funded Capacity Building in the Solid Waste, Waste Water Sector Project, took place at Dikmen İlkokulu on 9 May at Digomo/Dikmen and at Necati Taşkın İlkokulu in Nicosia on 16 May with the participation of 110 primary school students. The visits aimed to raise awareness on environmental protection. The interactive trainings included a short video on marine waste and a lively Q&A session with the participants.

Within the scope of the EU-funded "Private Sector Development Programme 4 - Competitive Enterprises, Clusters and Business Support Organisations", the EU Grant Support Team organised a two-day " Project Development Workshop" at the EU Infopoint on 17-18 May.
