Civil Society VI Grant Scheme launch event in Nicosia

On 30 June, the European Commission launched a EUR 2,500,000 call for proposals aiming at supporting Civil Society Organisation (CSO) capacity building, sustainability, effectiveness, transparency and accountability; to reinforce CSO involvement and impact in policy-making and actions in the public interest; and to strengthen CSO cooperation with other stakeholders to jointly tackle societal needs. 

The deadline for submission of proposals (concept note) is 12 September 2017, 17:00 Cyprus local time.

The sixth "Cypriot Civil Society in action" call for proposals targets these objectives by:

- Strengthening the organisational capacities, outreach and impact of civil society in promoting and defending democracy, fundamental rights and freedoms, cultural diversity and reconciliation;
-  Reinforcing Partnerships, Cooperation and Networking across Cyprus and/or with CSOs from other EU Member States to jointly address societal needs.

The call represents a unique opportunity for Civil Society Organisations to reinforce their capacity, actions and cooperation and make a change for the benefit of all. Projects to be supported will range from EUR 100,000 to EUR 350,000 for a two to three year implementation period. 
In the first instance only concept notes would have to be submitted. Applicants whose concept notes have been pre-selected will be invited to submit a full application. The deadline for submission of proposals (concept note) is 12 September 2017, 17:00 Cyprus local time.

The launch event for this call took place on at Büyük Han, Nicosia on 13 July. After the opening speeches by Ms.Kezban Akansoy and Ms.Charlotte Goyon, interested stakeholders and individuals had the opportunity to get more information by the presentations and experiences of the previous calls' grantees.

Green Jobs For A Greener Future Seminar held in Nicosia

The European Commission highlighted the concept of green jobs with a “Green Jobs for a Greener Future” seminar as part of Green Week 2017 on 7 July at Merit Hotel, Nicosia. The event aimed to generate discussion about opportunities, implementation and policies in the EU and in the Turkish Cypriot community on green jobs and green skills. After the opening speech by Mr.Alessandro Bianciardi, guest speaker Dr.Bela Galgoczi and local speakers Tamer Zaim, Gülcan Yalınca, Bahri Türkmen and Yasemin Çobanoğlu made presentations about EU’s environmental policies and how they are creating green jobs and best practices, local green job opportunities in the energy sector and green skills, EU-funded awareness raising on green economy for civil engineers project, EU-funded project for the education of young people on energy efficient buildings and providing employment opportunities and local green job opportunities in the environment sector and green skills. The event was organised in partnership with Chamber of Civil Engineers, Chamber of Environmental Engineers, Chamber of Mechanical Engineers, and Union of Chamber of Architects and Engineers.

European Music Nights
Bicommunal Cyprus Chamber Orchestra Concert at Othello Castle in Famagusta


Music is one of the most popular forms of art, widely consumed, and a vibrant expression of Europe's cultural diversity. Strengthening this sector contributes to the promotion of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, culture as a catalyst for creativity, and European culture as a vital part of external relations.

As part of the European Music Nights 2017, the European Commission organised a concert by Bicommunal Cyprus Chamber Orchestra on 6 July at Othello Castle, Famagusta. After the opening speeches by Ms.Pelin Maneoğlu and Mr.Nihat Ağdaç, spectators had a pleasant summer evening filled with classical music melodies.

Jazz Workshop and Jam Session in Nicosia
 
The Jazz Workshop and Jazz Concert, supported by the European Commission and organised with the participation of Jazz Education Abroad as part of European Music Nights 2017, took place in Nicosia on Tuesday, 11 July. The workshop brought together all age groups and participants at all levels and all musical instruments at Ledra Art Music and Fine Arts Studio. After the opening speech by Ms.Pelin Maneoğlu, almost 40 participants took part in parallel workshops for different instruments with Mariano Abello (Saxophone), J. Kyle Gregory (Trumpet), Dave Glenn (Trombone), Jeremy Siskind (Piano), Cahit Kutrafalı (Bass), Damian Erskine (Bass), Mike Dana (Guitar) and Paolo Orlandi (Drums). After the workshop, a jam session was held between 21:30 and 22:30, where the jazz masters gave a jazz concert. The jazz jam session brought together more than 50 jazz lovers in Lefkoşa who enjoyed the tunes.
