Food Safety in the EU for you!
 
The European Commission marked the importance of food safety with a panel discussion on Wednesday, 24 February at the Union of Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Architects and Engineers (KTMMOB), Nicosia. After the openning speech by Michela Foresti, Head of the European Union Programme Support Office, the EU policy on food safety and best practices in the EU; and food safety in veterinary and agricultural practices were presented by the EU expert Karsten Giffey, as well as local experts Dürüm Ulucasoy, Sibel Taçay and Emine Solyalı. The panel which gathered almost 150 attendants ended with a fruitful Q&A session.
Protecting the health of humans, animals and plants at every stage of the food production process is a key public health and economic priority. The European Union’s food safety policy aims to ensure that EU citizens enjoy safe and nutritious food produced from healthy plants and animals, whilst enabling the food industry, Europe’s largest manufacturing and employment sector, to operate in the best possible conditions.

Animal Welfare is Everyone's Responsibility!
 
The European Commission promoted the importance of the welfare of companion animals with a panel on 25 February at the European Union Programme Support Office (EUPSO), Nicosia.  The event brought together local communities, local and international experts and NGO representatives to examine the current situation, short and long term solutions, examples from EU countries and the EU strategy on pets and stray animals. The speakers, Margaret Ray, Prof. Dr.Tamer Dodurka, Hüda Hüdaoğlu, Umut Sayılı and Dilge Özerdem answered the questions of the attendants in the final part of the panel. In this way, animal rights supporters had an opportunity to interact with experts in a lively discussion.
Health and Safety at Work Saves Lives!
 
The importance of the health and safety at work was marked by the European Commission with a panel on 29 February at Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce (KTTO) in Nicosia. After the openning speeches of Mr.George Markopouliotis and Mr.Asım Akansoy, a discussion was generated amongst all stakeholders about how to address health and safety at work. The EU policy and examples from other European countries as well as the Turkish Cypriot community were presented at the event by the EU expert Tatjana Petricek and local experts Tuğyan Atıfsoy, Uğur Ergün, Deniz Berkol and Tezel Baykent. 
Infotour at Gaziveren
 
An information session took place at Gaziveren/Gaziveran on 26 February to promote EU opportunities and resources for rural areas. The presentations made by Juliette Remy Sartin, Bilgehan Kayalar, Burcu Mahmutoğlu and Özlem Oğuz were followed by a fruitful question and answer session mainly on the EU's support programme for small businesses and EU-funded professional development opportunities. The topics included support to civil society, SME's, project proposals and project management. Information on "Because I am Important" women's projected implemented by KAYAD and funded by EU was also shared.

The British Council launched the EU Scholarship Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community for the 2016-2017 academic year on 8 February. Later, on 16 and 24 February, the British Council organised two more info sessions about the scholarship programme at the EU Infopoint. The European Union funded project Cans of Hopes was launched on 26 February. Following openning speeches by Michela Foresti, Head of the European Union Programme Support Office, Mr.Mehmet Harmancı and Mr.Ersun Aytaç, information about the project has given to the attendants.
