Europe Day 2021 Programme

The Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus celebrates Europe Day 2021 with a series of events

On the occasion of Europe Day on 9 May 2021, the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, in collaboration with the European Parliament Liaison Office and the EU Infopoint will be organising a number of activities to celebrate this very important day for the European Union.

A video competition was organised from 21 April until 2 May, whereby Cypriot citizens and Europeans living in Cyprus recorded on their phones a reply to the question «What does it mean to be European». The best answers will be broadcast on our social media pages and a shorter version of the video will be placed on the 5 main TV stations in Cyprus on Sunday 9 May.

An online citizens’ dialogue with the Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus with the title “Discussing Europe: the Challenges Ahead” will be organised on Friday 7 May at 15h00 and will be broadcast live on the Representation’s Facebook page (https://en-gb.facebook.com/events/175518381129165/). The discussion will be coordinated by Cypriot journalist Ms. Andrie Daniel and there will be interpretation into English, Turkish and Greek. Citizens will be able to submit their questions on Facebook.

The EU Infopoint, with the support of the European Commission, is celebrating Europe Day 2021 with various online cultural and educational activities. The activities within the scope of the online programme will be published mainly on the Facebook page of the EU Infopoint (https://www.facebook.com/ABBilgi/). The online Europe Day 2021 programme will run for 3 days, from 7-9 May, and will include cultural activities such as concert, opera and ballet performances by European artists, including a performance from the Cyprus Chamber Orchestra, virtual tours of museums and galleries from Europe, as well as interactive educational programmes for children that will help them explore elements from 27 member states and learn about the diverse cultural mosaic of the European Union.

The celebrations for the 9th of May will culminate with the Cyprus Chamber Orchestra Concert with opening remarks by Mr Papadopoulos, the Head of the European Commission Representation in Cyprus and Ms. Judit Rozsa, the Director of Coordination, Resources and Aid Programme at DG Reform. The concert will be aired on social media channels on Sunday 9 May at 20:30.
