Speaking at the event, Kjartan Björnsson, the Deputy Director and Head of Unit for Cyprus Settlement Support Unit at the European Commission, stated that the European Statistics Office, known as Eurostat, has built up an advanced statistical system supporting the EU’s development and policies since its establishment in 1952.
Highlighting that data including reliable statistics is an essential resource for all societies, Mr Björnsson underlined that the EU support for the Turkish Cypriot community aims to pave the way for the reunification of Cyprus.
The recently launched Technical Assistance project implemented by Statistics Denmark builds on the EU expert support through the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument (TAIEX) as well as the EU funded work of the World Bank.
