Strengthening the Capacity of Veterinary Services for the Eradication of Animal Diseases
With the support of the European Commission an event titled "Animal Disease Eradication: Strengthening the Capacity of Veterinary Services" was held on Thursday, 14 November 2019 from 16:00 to 19:00 in Nicosia at Merit Hotel.
After the opening speeches by Mr. Michael Docherty and Mr. Emirali Deveci, the event on "Animal Disease Eradication: Strengthening the Capacity of Veterinary Services" provided information on the procedures and cost-sharing scheme with regards to the assignment of private veterinarians on behalf of the Veterinary Department for specific tasks and responsibilities. The event also highlighted the EU contribution to improving animal and public health in the Turkish Cypriot community by implementing EU standards.
The event on "Animal Disease Eradication: Strengthening the Capacity of Veterinary Services" is the second of a series of activities organised on the eradication of animal diseases. The first activity was the “Animal Disease Eradication: Healthier Animals, Safer Food” conference which took place at Hidden Garden, Nicosia on Thursday, 13 June 2019 on which addressed the importance of animal health for food safety and reduction of losses for farmers with a particular focus on brucellosis.
The EU Infopoint and the technical assistance project to strengthen the capacity of Turkish Cypriot veterinary services to eradicate, control and prevent animal diseases are both funded by the European Union.
