European Commission marked European Mobility Week 2015

The European Commission marked European Mobility Week 2015 with a series of activities organised by the EU Infopoint in collaboration with Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB). 

European Mobility Week events were first announced to press members in a press conference held in Merit Hotel, Nicosia on 15 September. 

The “No Car Day” event on 19 September took place at Ataturk Square in the walled city, Nicosia, from 10:00 to 14:00. Activities included bicycle tours, walking tours, mobility information stands, and a treasure hunt. 

The panel on “Sustainable Transport and Mobility in the EU and in Turkish Cypriot community” took place on 21September at the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce, Nicosia from 10:30 – 12:30. EU and local experts discussed policies on transport, sustainable transportation, mobility in the EU, road safety, and the environment.

These events aimed to inform participants about the importance of being able to think and choose from a range of efficient and sustainable transportation options; as well as highlighting the sustainable transportation approach and policies in the EU and in Turkish Cypriot community.

A number of local partners have joined together to support the activities including Nicosia Turkish Municipality and local organisations such as the Turkish Cypriot Bicycle Federation, Diabetes Association, Disabled Individuals Association, Environment Platform, and the Turkish Cypriot Medical Association.
