EU Infopoint hosted a panel discussion on “Nature & Biodiversity”.

The EU Infopoint organised a panel discussion on “Nature & Biodiversity” as one of the Green Week activities on Tuesday, 2June at the EU Infopoint premises with the participation of EU and local speakers who shared perspectives about the importance of protecting nature and biodiversity.

Green Week, one of the most important initiatives highlighting EU environment policy, takes place every year in June and the theme for 2015 is nature and biodiversity.  The aim of the activities that are held in the northern part of Cyprus for Green Week is to raise awareness about the importance of nature and biodiversity and to present an opportunity to share local knowledge. 

The panel included Nature Protection Expert Mr. Philip Cannings, Dr. Salih Güncel from the Biologists Association, Dr. Damla Beton from KUSKOR, and academic Dr. Özge Özden. The speakers covered the following topics: The EU framework in the area of Nature Protection, the importance of protecting biodiversity for sustainability, and biodiversity in Cyprus.
