Objectives

In line with the objectives of bringing the Turkish Cypriot community closer to the European Union, the European Commission will award scholarship grants to Turkish Cypriot students and teachers in order to offer them:

1)    Additional educational opportunities by raising their knowledge and/or increasing their skills in a specific field;

2)    Broaden the experience of studying and living in the European Union.

Grants

In total around 150 scholarship grants will be awarded in the form of fixed lump-sums intended as a contribution covering tuition fees, accommodation and travel expenses. The lump sum allowance varies from EUR 1,500 to EUR 15,000 pending on the duration and the destination. For details, please see the Guidelines of the Application package.

4 different types of scholarships will be awarded for studying, following a training course, conducting research, or an internship programme in an EU Member State (outside the northern part of Cyprus).

Type A: Scholarships for one academic year of an undergraduate programme.

Type B: Scholarships for one academic year of post-graduate study (Master’s or PhD or Postdoctoral programmes).

Type C: Scholarships from 2 to 6 months duration for professional courses/trainings or research.

Type D: Scholarships from 2 to 6 months duration for internships.
Who can apply?

The different types of scholarships target the following different groups of the northern part of Cyprus:

  • final year high school students;
  • university students;
  • graduates of high schools;
  • graduates of universities;
  • professionals.

How to apply?

The application process will be carried out in two steps:

Step 1) Applicants or any person acting on behalf of the applicant will have to register for an interview at the EU Programme Support Office in person. Registration must be done during business hours [9.00-17.00] at the EU Programme Support Office (EUPSO), 38-44 Kyrenia Avenue, Nicosia, Cyprus. Please note that EUPSO is closed on 28th-29th March and on 1st April 2013.

Step 2) Applicants will participate in an interview. Application forms with all requested documents must be submitted in person on the day of the interview.

Applicants will be notified of their results following the end of the interview period in writing.

Diary
Since the academic year 2007-2008, hundreds of Turkish Cypriot teachers and students benefitted from the Scholarship Programme and contributed to their future carriers. They experienced living in different countries and cultures.
