Green Jobs For A Greener Future Seminar

Startups4Peace programme launched

The Embassy of Finland and Startup Cyprus with the cooperation of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce launched Startups4Peace programme for the third year. Startups4Peace aims at bringing youngsters close from both communities providing motivation, knowhow and the means for the realization of their business ideas. The program encourages innovative business ideas with a bicommunal vision for Cyprus, and the increase on interaction of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot Startup communities. The Nicosia Friendship Cup 2017

The Nicosia Friendship Cup 2017, supported by the European Commission, took place on 2-3 June. Four Cypriot and international amateur football teams, CVAR, Duzkaya, Finland United, Cyprus International, participated in the tournament, which was organised by the EU Infopoint. After the introduction meeting on 2 June at the Home for Cooperation, the first day matches took place at the Yusuf Kaptan football pitch. Education and Business World Cooperate for the Improvement of Skills

Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Treaties of Rome

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the signature of the Treaties of Rome, the European Commission organised a concert and reception with Cyprus Chamber Orchestra Concert to mark the occasion and to reflect on Europe's common future. Traffic Safety Campaign Workshop

The European Commission organised a Traffic Safety Campaign Workshop targeting youth. The workshop aimed to bring together young traffic ambassadors from high schools, universities and youth NGOs in order to collectively develop a campaign that will be publicized in the Turkish Cypriot community. Battery Collection Competition Prize Ceremony

The prize ceremony of the Battery Collection Competition, which was launched in June 2016 by the European Commission as part of Green Week 2016, was held on 11 January at EU Infopoint with the participation of the winning schools and students. Green Week 2016 Online Photo Competition

To mark the importance of the environment and recycling, the EU Infopoint organised an online photo competition in the context of the Green Week 2016 activities. The photos were published on the Instagram and Facebook accounts of the EU Infopoint for public vote. The competition resulted in 3 participants receiving a prize. Film Screening at Kumsal Park

To highlight the devastating impact that humans are having on the planet, a film screening event was organised at Kumsal Park, Nicosia on 17 June as part of Green Week 2016 activities. After the opening speech by Mr.Davide Bixio, the spectators enjoyed the documentary movie "Home" which was directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand. With aerial footage from fifty-four countries, "Home" is a depiction of how Earth's problems are all interlinked. Composting Workshop at Gönyeli SAM

Green Week 2016 activities continued with a Composting Workshop organised by the EU Infopoint in cooperation with the Chamber of Environmental Engineers and Gönyeli SAM. During the workshop, the participants learned to make composting from kitchen and garden waste. The European Commission marked Veterinary Week 2015 with an open day organised at the Veterinary Department Laboratory located in Nicosia, on Wednesday 18 November. European Road Safety Day

The European Commission marked European Road Safety Day with a series of trainings targeting primary school and high school students organised by the EU Infopoint in collaboration with the Prevention of Traffic Accidents Association and TRAKAYAD. The events took place at the Traffic Education Park on 15 October from 9:30 – 11:30, at Turk Maarif Koleji (TMK) on 20 October from 11:45 - 13:00 and at Bülent Ecevit High School on 21 October from 10:00 – 11:30. European Youth Media Days

The Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus in cooperation with the EU Infopoint hosted this year’s European Youth Media Days with a photojournalism workshop and launch of the Human Rights Photojournalism Competition on 6 November 2015 at the EU Infopoint. EU Anti-Trafficking Panel

The European Commission marked EU Anti-Trafficking Day 2015 with a panel organised by the EU Infopoint. The panel took place on the Friday, 30 October at the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce. The topics included human trafficking, trafficking victims and factors that lead to human trafficking, the EU Policy on human trafficking and measures in the Turkish Cypriot community. The European Commission marked this year’s European Researchers Night 2015 with a gala event at Bedestan Nicosia on Tuesday 29 September from 19.30 – 21.30 where local researchers shared their latest research projects and highlighted how science can make a difference to our daily lives. This year is the 10 year anniversary of European Researchers Night which is celebrated in over 300 cities in 24 European cities. The European Commission marked European Mobility Week 2015 with a series of activities organised by the EU Infopoint in collaboration with Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB).  European Mobility Week events were first announced to press members in a press conference held in Merit Hotel, Nicosia on 15 September.  The “No Car Day” event on 19 September took place at Ataturk Square in the walled city, Nicosia, from 10:00 to 14:00. EU Infopoint organised rural visits to raise awareness

The EU Infopoint highlightined the EU policy on rural development and the EU support to rural communities during the month of July with a  rural tour between 27 – 30 July in Komi Kebir/Büyükkonuk, Kiados/Serdarlı, Morphou/Güzelyurt, and Lefka/Lefke. School students highlighted the urgent need to protect our environment

The EU Infopoint announced the winners of the environment themed competition for school students at a prize ceremony and exhibition on June 30 from 15:00 – 17:00 at Atatürk Kültür Merkezi (AKM). The importance of environmental protection and the EU policies on environment were highlighted at the event. The EU Infopoint organised an Organic Agriculture and Biodiversity Panel Discussion at the EU Infopoint on June 29 from 17:00 – 19:00. The EU Infopoint organised an outdoor fair to celebrate Europe Day and Green Week on 13 June from 16:00 to 20:30. The EU Infopoint in cooperation with the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus and the European Parliament Information Office in Cyprus organised a Gender Equality & Social Media event on Tuesday 26 May at EU Infopoint from 3 pm to 5 pm. Telling the story of the European Union for Children

Europe Day celebrations continued at the EU Infopoint with a children’s storytelling session on “The Story of the European Union” planned for Saturday 23 May from 11:00 to 13:00 at the EU Infopoint premises. Europe Day Celebrations Have Begun!

Europe Day celebrations have begun in the northern part of Cyprus with a series of events being organised by the EU Infopoint in cooperation with the European Commission throughout May and June 2015. The first event took place on 13 May at the EU Infopoint during which the Children’s Art and Photography competition on the theme of the environment was launched. Approximately 70 people attended the event inlcuding officials, teachers, students and NGO representatives.  Europe Day (9 May) celebrates peace and unity in Europe. World Water Day celebrated with “Walk for Water, Walk for Life” event.

World Water Day is celebrated by more than 40 participants who joined the “Walk for Water, Walk for Life” event organized by EU Infopoint. The walk took place around the Karavas/Alsancak and Lapithos/Lapta water resources. During the tour, the participants had the opportunity to receive information from experts about the water resources they visited, the history of water, water efficiency and EU policies regarding water. Reducing energy consumption and eliminating energy wastage are among the main goals of the European Union. The EU supports energy efficiency for competitiveness and for meeting commitments on climate change. To raise awareness for this mission, the EU Infopoint organised a panel on energy efficiency targeting SMEs. The EU Infopoint officially opened its doors on April 30th 2015 with the participation of Walter Deffaa, Director General for Regional and Urban Policy Directorate General of the European Commission. The EU Infopoint aims to bring the Turkish Cypriot community closer to the European Union and it provides information on the EU legal and political order and the EU Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community, in order to improve the public knowledge, awareness and the understanding of the European Union, its values, policies and programmes.
